New course to help vets with the medical options for cancer patients

ONCORE Online Learning have made a new addition to their course portfolio, offering veterinary surgeons in general or referral practice three weeks of online, tutor-supported learning covering the medical  options and decision-making processes for treatment of oncology patients.

The 3 week course, led by European Specialist in Small Animal Oncology, Irina Gramer, is entitled ‘Medical Treatment Options for the Cancer Patient – Made Simple!’. The course provides lectures, reading materials, interactive learning forums (including discussion and troubleshooting of delegate cases), and assessed coursework.

“..the expectations of clients with cancer patients are becoming increasingly high.”

Jill Macdonald of ONCORE comments that ‘ With more treatment options available, the expectations of clients with cancer patients are becoming increasingly high. The course aims to support vets in choosing the best approaches, understanding the adverse affects that these treatments may carry, and considering alternate  approaches if the first line of treatment fails or is problematic. The facility to share and discuss cases with other delegates and a tutor specialising in this discipline, is also going to be of great benefit.’

The course runs from ONCORE’s easy-to-use learning platform, and runs asynchronously, meaning that the forums can be accessed at any time of the day or night over the first two weeks, with coursework completed over the final week.

Tutor Irina Gramer is a member of the team at Davies Veterinary Specialists in Hertfordshire.

ONCORE are delighted to welcome Irina Gramer to their growing list of tutors. Irina graduated from Justus Liebig University, Germany in 2010 and completed a 2 year doctoral thesis on genetic mutations in canine cancer. After spending the next year in private practice in Germany she moved to the UK to complete an internship in Small Animal Oncology at the VRCC in Essex, and finished her residency training in Oncology at the University of Liverpool in 2017. Irina and is now a member of the team at Davies Veterinary Specialists in Hertfordshire.

Primarily suited to vets in general practice

The course is primarily suited to veterinary surgeons in general practice – however vets in referral centres, and veterinary nurses with a special interest in oncology, will also find the course useful.

The first intake of the course is planned for 12th February 2018, with ONCORE offering an early-bird rate of £116.10 (full rate £129) until 30th Nov 2017, with limited places available.
