What will you learn?

Medical nursing of dermatology patients requires knowledge of a number of diagnostic skills in sampling, staining and analysing of samples, and proficient use of the microscope and analysis of samples. Effective and detailed history-taking is also vital in ensuring enough information has been gathered. This on-demand course aims to assist you with becoming more confident in these areas, including the equipment to use and how to use it, and how to select and obtain the appropriate samples and perform diagnostic quality tests.

This course provides on-demand learning that will teach and refresh many of the principles of dermatology, including history-taking, sampling and analysing, and effective management of different cases. The course provides short lectures, quizzes, scenarios and exercises to support and enhance your learning.

In addition, the final module will assist you in considering how you can setup and manage clinics within your own practice setting, and create a proposal for your practice which you will receive feedback on from your tutor

Successful completion of this course will enable you to:

  • Understand the history taking process, the tests and techniques needed to undertake a complete skin workup, and the treatment options available
  • Understand the requirements of the client/nurse/vet relationship in managing dermatology cases successfully
  • Appreciate the considerations for successfully establishing and maintaining a dermatology clinic which works within their practice setting

This on-demand course covers the key principles of dermatology nursing, as outlined in the following syllabus.

It includes short presentations, downloadable resources, reading and reference material, exercises and quizzes.

You will need to gain 80% in each module quiz and 100% in the final quiz, to gain your course certificate. You are able to retake quizzes if you don’t achieve this.

There is also the option to complete the submitted coursework, which will be assessed by your tutor.

We estimate that if ALL of the course material is utilised, in-practice exercises performed, and assessed coursework completed; the course will equate to approximately 15 hours CPD; however you can tailor the course to suit your needs and complete as much study as you wish to.
